The Substance Use Counselor at our Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) provides vital support and counseling services to individuals seeking assistance with opioid addiction. This role involves conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and offering individual counseling to clients. The Substance Use Counselor plays a crucial role in helping clients navigate the challenges of addiction recovery and achieve sustainable sobriety.
Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate clients' substance use history, mental health status, and treatment needs.
Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients, incorporating evidence-based practices and client-centered approaches.
Provide counseling and therapeutic interventions to clients, both individually and in group settings, focusing on substance use disorder recovery and relapse prevention.
Monitor clients' progress throughout the treatment process, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to ensure effectiveness.
Educate clients and their families about the nature of addiction, treatment options, and strategies for maintaining recovery.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and other counselors, to coordinate comprehensive care for clients.
Document all client interactions, treatment plans, and progress notes in accordance with program policies and regulatory requirements.
Participate in staff meetings, treatment team meetings, and group supervision to enhance clinical knowledge and skills.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all aspects of client care and professional conduct.
Stay informed about current trends, research findings, and best practices in the field of substance use disorder treatment, particularly as they relate to opioid addiction.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
State licensure or certification as a Substance Use Counselor (e.g., Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor) preferred.
Prior experience working in substance use disorder treatment, particularly with individuals struggling with opioid addiction.
Strong understanding of addiction dynamics, recovery principles, and evidence-based treatment modalities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build therapeutic alliances with clients.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
